As a leading voice in our industry, Master Builders Victoria is committed to the development of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the workplace. We recognise the value a diverse workforce can offer organisations across the building and construction sector and will continue to support its importance.

Over the last three years, MBV has developed and launched several key DEI focussed initiatives, including;

  • MBV's first DEI Strategy and Statement
  • DEI and Cultural Awareness Training
  • DEI Attitudinal Survey
  • Reviewed Policies to be equitable and inclusive, such as Recruitment, Flexible Work, and Procurement
  • Established a Wellness Committee
  • MBV's first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan

In addition, to align with our DEI focus, we are also progressing through the review of our Employee Value Proposition and are pleased to announce that the MBV Board have approved the following progressive and best practice policies to be created and implemented at MBV and released in early 2023:

  • Paid Parental Leave; team members will be provided with eight weeks (or FTE equivalent) of paid parental leave at a full rate of pay in addition to any parental leave payments provided by the Government
  • Gender Affirmation Leave; team members can access twenty days of paid leave to be used for medical and legal gender affirmation at their discretion
  • Domestic and Family Violence Leave; in addition to the proposed changes to the Fair Work Act, an additional ten days of leave, along with safe housing accommodation, will be available for all MBV team members where it is required to ensure the safety of our team.

This significant achievement further solidifies MBV's commitment to our members, team members, industry, and society as we strive to be a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. Further, as a result of our work, MBV is now considered a leader with strong relationships within the DEI space, which has resulted in members and key industry stakeholders seeking our guidance and assistance. This has led to an Inclusive Leadership training course released for our industry.

We encourage our members to join us in working towards improving DEI across our industry, bringing change today and leading a future-ready industry that builds a better world.
