The Victorian Government has appointed Master Builders Victoria CEO Rebecca Casson as one of the inaugural members of its newly formed Victorian Skills Authority (VSA) Advisory Board.

The VSA was established in July 2021 and is a key response to the recommendations in Skills for Victoria’s Growing Economy, led by former Federal Minister Jenny Macklin.

The Authority will lead a revitalised approach to skills and training through the development of an annual Victorian Skills Plan to better guide the State’s training delivery.

The Advisory Board will be a vital conduit of guidance to the Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education, and the VSA for strengthening skills for Victoria – as the pathway to opportunity for many Victorians and to support the growth of our industries.

The Advisory Board will be the sounding board for many aspects of the work of the VSA.

In addition to offering input and guidance on the Victorian Skills Plan, the Advisory Board’s perspectives will provide key inputs into other areas of VSA’s work such as data insights, teaching professionalism, innovation, and regional and industry development.

Ms Casson said it was a great honour to be appointed to the VSA board, complementing her current role at Master Builders Victoria.

“I am honoured to take on this inaugural role at such a dynamic time for our State — the skills needed in Victoria, and particularly the building and construction industry, are changing rapidly,” she said.

“The Victorian Skills Authority will be tasked with dealing with these changes in thoughtful and innovative ways, and a refreshed approach will provide an opportunity for all sectors to benefit for many years to come.

“I look forward to working with the VSA and other members of the Advisory Board as we look to equip the next generation of Victorians with the skills they need to thrive in their careers.”

Like the Victorian community, the Advisory Board is diverse, and members come from a range of roles with deep expertise in the skills system.

Each has connections, experience, and knowledge in vocational and higher education, and a commitment to education and training as the basis for individual success and to develop industries and communities.
