Master Builders Victoria (MBV) has welcomed today’s decision by the State and Federal Government to sign an agreement for a quarantine facility to be built at either Avalon or Mickleham.

MBV CEO Rebecca Casson said it was good to see both governments working together on this vital project and they would hopefully agree the preferred location for the new 500-bed facility soon, with construction set to begin by September 2021.

“On our member’s behalf, MBV has had very positive discussions with the State Government on this exciting project, pending confirmation of the final location,” she said.

“Recently, we have been seeking our members input on what they consider to be the most sensible approach for this initiative. “For example, should a managing contractor be appointed to work in partnership with the Government at the start of the project, will a design and construct, lump-sum model be more efficient, or are there other procurement delivery methods that should be considered?

“Our members are willing and able to crack on with this important project with the aim of protecting our state from future lockdowns from the devastating COVID-19 virus.”

Ms Casson said Expressions of Interest for contractors interested in tendering for the Victorian Government’s Alternative Quarantine Accommodation Hub were now open.

Interested members have until 2pm, Thursday, 17 June, to submit their tender.
