3.1 Framing work
Safe handling of frames

The framing stage can also subject workers to risks in relation to:

  • The delivery of materials;
  • The manual handling and erection of frames;
  • Structural collapse.

As always, planning ahead and producing detailed Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) is the best way to keep yourself and your employees safe.

Structural collapse can occur at many points of the building process, however, considering how to prevent collapses at every step, from the earliest framing stages, is good practice to ensure that you keep yourself, your employees and the public safe.

There are three videos in the Module Materials that will help you prepare for and undertake safe framing practices on any project.

Video 1 – walks you through how to safely handle the erection of your wall frames.

Video 2 – demonstrates best practice for erecting trusses to minimise the risk of injury and structural collapse, from delivery of materials through to internal and external fixing.

Video 3 – working with tools, which always presents a degree of risk. The video below is a reminder of best practice nail gun use.
