4.1 Roof work
Heights, exposure and other risks

In addition to builders and roof tilers, contractors who could find themselves working on roofs include:

  • Electricians;
  • Plumbers;
  • Pest control operators;
  • Installers of roof aerials, solar panels and air-conditioning systems.

Conducting roof work of any kind is associated with a number of risks. Falling from heights is one, but far from the only hazard presented to workers carrying out any tasks on a roof structure.

As an employer, you are responsible for providing and maintaining, so far as is reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health of your employees and contractors.

Study the two topics in this module, and their associated resources, for a greater understanding of how you can protect yourself and others from risks associated with roof work.
