Master Builders Victoria (MBV) was on hand to assist finance expert Effie Zahos with a consumer story on Channel Nine’s Today show this morning.

From building your dream home to renovations big or small, the COVID-19 pandemic has seen a boom in Australians transforming the home in which they live.

But supply chain problems are pushing up costs across the building and construction sector.

MBV was able to assist the Today Show in their segment by supplying a graphic showing the annual change in home building costs in states and territories across Australia.

Melbourne led the country at 10.2 per cent.

With a pipeline of new homes still to be built and international borders not expected to reopen for a while, MBV also advised Channel Nine that this issue may continue for many months to come.

Over the past 12 months, MBV has worked tirelessly on issues facing our industry, including supply chain shortages.

At the request of MBV, the Victorian Government has asked Commissioner for Better Regulation and Red Tape Commissioner, Anna Cronin, to investigate the issue of building and construction material shortages.

The Commissioner delivered her report on the state of supply shortages in Victoria to the government in early November 2021.

We look forward to this report being made public in the coming weeks.
