The Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) has released a public comment draft of the proposed changes to the 2022 Version of the National Construction Code (NCC).

This is stage 2 of the consultation process which has a primary focus on the proposed technical amendments for energy efficiency and condensation in both Volumes 1 & 2 of the NCC.

The ABCB are suggesting the following key amendments:

  • A stringency increase in the thermal performance of homes from the current level, equivalent to 6-stars NatHERS, to the equivalent of 7 stars
  • The introduction of whole-of-home annual energy use requirements (noting differences between Class 1 and 2 buildings)
  • New Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions for Class 2 buildings
  • New provisions to allow easy retrofit of on-site renewables and electric vehicle charging equipment for Class 2 to 9 buildings
  • Enhanced condensation management provisions, including additional ventilation and wall vapour permeability requirements.

You can access the ABCB consultation hub to review the ABCB documents forming part of the consultation process here.

Master Builders Victoria (MBV) will be reviewing the documents and we will keep members further informed upon completing a review of the ABCB documents.

We encourage all members to review the proposed changes on the ABCB consultation hub and contribute feedback, otherwise upon review you can forward any feedback to our policy department via email to [email protected].
