From Monday 26th August 2024, several changes were made to the Fair Work Act 2009 (‘Fair Work Act’) arising from the recently introduced Fair Work Legislation Amendment (‘Closing Loopholes’) legislation.
These changes include:
- New definition of ‘employment’ impacting independent contractor arrangements
- Changes to the definition of ‘casual employee’ and the casual conversion process
- A new right to disconnect
- New unfair contract terms jurisdiction with the Fair Work Commission
The changes were part of the closing loopholes legislation that was passed over the course of 2023 and 2024. We recommended you familiarise themselves with these changes.
Our MBV Employment and Industrial Relations Team have prepared a summary of these changes that can be accessed here.
