The Victorian Building Authority (VBA) have made it quicker and easier for practitioners to do their exams with the launch of a secure online examination portal.

From Monday, July 26, the new portal will allow eligible building practitioners applying for registration to complete online exams remotely, rather than in-person at a VBA facility.

The online exam portal will be secure and easy to use anytime, anywhere, with more flexibility for applicants and reduced travel time, resulting in a more accessible and efficient exam process.

The COVID-19 pandemic has placed significant strain on the construction industry and we have adapted and evolved our exam products to better meet practitioner needs.

We expect about 2,000 practitioners and applicants to benefit from the VBA’s new online exam platform every year.

The VBA has engaged with industry to increase awareness and inform them on the benefits of online exams. The VBA will continue to work alongside key industry stakeholders to evaluate the new platform and ensure it remains accessible, secure, and fit for purpose.

The adoption of online exams is part of the VBA’s digital transformation, which will give industry, practitioners and consumers better access to our services, supporting an enhanced customer experience.

To ensure everyone can access our services, the VBA will continue to provide face-to-face exam sessions for those practitioners unable to access online exams.

The new online exams will be for registration in:

  • Domestic Builder Unlimited.
  • Domestic Builder Limited to Carpentry Work.
  • Building Inspector (Pool Safety).

The VBA is currently working on making online exams available for the remaining building registration classes as well as for plumbers, who are still required to attend a VBA-arranged facility to undertake face-to-face exams.

These changes support the Victorian Government’s efforts to keep the Victorian economy moving, in a COVID-safe environment.
