In September 2018 the ABCB published the Accessible Housing Project’s Options Paper (attached). The paper provided a range of options for a minimum accessibility standard for housing in the National Construction Code (NCC).  Master Builders Australia made a submission to the ABCB Options Paper on Accessible Housing, releasing it on Friday 7 December.  The association shares the following information about its submission:

"The Options Paper was commissioned by the Building Ministers Forum to provide a preliminary menu of options and costings on the possible inclusion of a minimum accessibility standard for housing in the National Construction Code. The next step in the process will be a Regulatory Impact Assessment done by the ABCB in 2019.

Master Builders does not support the adoption of mandatory minimum standard, instead recommends a voluntary option that recognises the existing Liveable Housing Australia best practice guide; review of existing mechanisms, appropriate resourcing for voluntary options; and pilot projects to test market appetite and minimise additional cost for builders."
