You’re likely aware that The Hon. Matthew Guy MP is the Leader of the opposition and Liberal Party and could be the next Premier of Victoria after this November’s election.

But why should Master Builders’ members like you take an interest in his leadership and what might be in store for the building and construction industry?

The answer is straightforward:  the state election in November will likely determine the future of our industry in Victoria. Political leadership influences everything we do from the rules and regulations we follow to the incentives and initiatives the government puts in place to grow the industry.

Building industry issues such as planning, housing affordability and major infrastructure are critical to the future prosperity of our state. Members have a special opportunity to meet Matthew Guy at our industry luncheon on Thursday 25 October. Click here for information on how to attend.

It’s helpful to understand Matthew Guy’s previous involvement with Master Builders and our sector. He has been a regular guest and speaker at Master Builder Victoria events for several years, including the Excellence in Housing Awards, Excellence in Construction Awards and, most recently, our industry conference at Metropolis, Southbank.

At each event, he has called for greater support for the building and construction sector and supported the need for supervisory agencies such as the Australian Building and Construction Commission (ABCC) that pursue abuses of power in the industry that jeopardise the health and vitality of the Victorian economy.

To gain a better understanding of the issues that Master Builders has identified as most important to helping you get more of the work that you want, this article on our election strategy can give you a good foundation.

When our elected leaders meet you in person its reinforces the message that the building industry is paying attention and watching their actions closely. Attending events like the industry luncheon is a great way to stay engaged with the issues that affect you most.
