Master Builders Victoria today announced the results of the 2020 election, with Mark Little of Little Constructions being elected as President for a two-year term.

Mr Little will be joined by Geoff Purcell from Kane Constructions as the Deputy President and Sam Cimino from PGH Bricks as Treasurer.

We also welcome new Board members Stuart Allen of Stuart Allen Building, Mark Phillips from Bunnings and Ashley Tonkin-Hill from Wagstaff Piling. We welcome back to the Board, Paul McMahon of Harmac Homes and Michael Clemenger in his new role at Built Environs.

Also newly elected to the Council of Management were Greg Cole, Graham Cressey, Pasquale Garofalo and Dale Kennedy.

In addition to this, some new Sector Committee members were elected this year including Lisa Hollingsworth, Nancy Italiano, Daniel Mazzei and Matt Gilmour.

Mr Little thanked all members after his election.

“It is an honour to be elected President of Master Builders Victoria. I became a Student Member of Master Builders Victoria back in 1998 and have been a continuous member ever since.

I know the significant role the organisation plays in our industry.

Our work has never been more important than what it was in 2020 with the day-to-day challenges faced by our industry through COVID-19.

This leads to an exciting time to be President as we move into 2021.

Our industry will lead Victoria’s economic recovery in the years ahead, so it will be our voice that shapes that recovery in Victoria.

I thank outgoing President Richard Hansen, and the other outgoing members of the Board, Council of Management and Sector Committees for their contribution to Master Builders Victoria. I also congratulate all Board, Council of Management and Sector Committee members elected for 2021, including Geoff Purcell and Sam Cimino who I’ll be working closely with as Deputy President and Treasurer.

The Board and Council of Management look forward to working with all members and the team at Master Builders Victoria to help build a better future for Victorians in 2021 and beyond.”

The election of Mr Little represents the first time a Country Sector Chairperson has been elected President under the current constitution.

Mr Little’s connection with Master Builders Victoria goes back to 1997 when he won the Geelong Section Apprentice of the Year, Best Overall Apprentice in Carpentry – Geelong Section, together with the Master Builders Victoria Florence M Taylor Medallion as his career started.

Mr Little previously served as Chairperson of the Geelong Section from 2012 - 2015.

Newly elected Deputy President Geoff Purcell is from Kane Constructions who have been members for 27 years.

Newly elected Treasurer Sam Cimino is from PGH Bricks, members for 34 years.

The 2020 Master Builders Victoria elections were conducted, for the first time, by the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the AEC exercised its powers of discretion under s192 of the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009 to extend the timeline of the 2020 MBV Elections “to allow sufficient time for the delivery and return of ballot packs during the COVID-19 pandemic.”

With the AEC using its powers of discretion, this caused a delay in the results and the MBV Elections not being concluded before the AGM as usual.

We thank all members who participated in the election process, whether that be by voting or standing for election.  And we encourage all members to continue to be actively involved in our future elections.

A Special General meeting was held this morning, where all Board and Councillors-elect formally took office.
