Note: The below is for information purposes only and is simplified version of the MBV election process and assumes that every election stage will proceed to a vote. If the amount of nominations does not exceed the required amount of positions to be filled, those eligible nominators will be declared elected and a vote will not be necessary. The full and complete process is contained within the MBV Constitution & Rules.

Step 1

Roll of Voters Closes

This is the list of voting members (excludes Associate Members, Provisional, Student etc.)

Each member has one Authorised Representative who represents that member and is eligible to both vote and nominate for election on behalf of that member.

Step 2

Call for nominations

Anyone listed on the Roll of Voters may nominate for the Sector Group Committee which is their primary sector group. Nb. Many Country Sector Group members are also members of the Housing Sector Group. As the Sector Group Committee term is two years only, half of the Sector Group Committee positions become available and are elected each year.

Step 3

Ballots Sent and votes cast

All members on the Roll of Voters in a Sector can vote, if it is their primary sector, for the nominees to that Sector Group Committee.

The ballots are counted, and the successful candidates declared elected to the Sector Group Committee.

Step 4

Nominations for Council

All Sector Group Committee members (including those in their second year of the two-year term) are able to nominate for one of their Sector Groups Council positions (3 positions for each Sector except MM&S, which has 2).

Step 5

Ballots Sent and votes cast

All members on the Roll of Voters in a Sector can vote, if it is their primary sector, for the nominees to that Sector Group Committee’s Council positions.

The ballots are counted and the successful candidates become Councillors Elect.

Step 6

Nominations for Sector Committee Chair positions

Only Councillors Elect may nominate for Sector Committee Chair in their Sector Group Committee.

Step 7

Ballots prepared and votes cast

Only the Councillors Elect, in a particular Sector Group Committee, may vote in the secret ballot which is held at the Council meeting prior to the AGM.

Nb. This means that 3 people (2 for MM&S) vote on which of the three (or 2) will be Chairperson (Board).

Step 8

Nominations for Office Bearer position

All Councillors Elect are eligible to nominate for all Office Bearer positions excluding Immediate Past President.

Step 9

Ballots are prepared and votes cast

All Councillors Elect may vote in the secret ballot which is held at the Council meeting prior to the AGM.

Step 10

Election Declared

Councillors, Board and Office Bearers all take office at the AGM.
