MBV congratulates the Australian Labor Party on its weekend election win and looks forward to working with the new Albanese Government over the next three years.

In line with our ongoing commitment to effectively represent our members, advocate for your interests, and the continued pursuit of positive outcomes for our growing industry, MBV will continue our proactive engagement with the government throughout the years ahead.

MBV also congratulates Victorian-based Corio MP Richard Marles on his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister.

As known, our industry faces a critical time as it experiences unprecedented supply chain issues, skill shortages and ongoing price increases.

Some key policy issues to be implemented by the new government include establishing a housing supply council, more social housing funding and support for low-income homeowners, and the move to add housing policy into the infrastructure portfolio.

MBV also commends federal Labor on its pledge to increase domestic manufacturing and its new timber policy, which should help alleviate some of the supply shortages hampering our industry.

However, MBV will continue to work with the new government to provide further evidence on the importance to Victorians of maintaining a building and construction industry watchdog.

MBV pays tribute to the outgoing Morrison Government for its economic handling of the global COVID-19 pandemic and for helping to ensure thousands of small building and construction businesses could survive.

MBV looks forward to working with all newly elected Victorian MPs and Senators as they face the sizeable task of steering our nation through the pandemic recovery stage.
