Drafted in acknowledgement of feedback from members and sector committees, Master Builders Victoria has recently provided its submission in response to the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning’s (DEWLP) Stage 1 consultation into the priority areas of building work.

Master Builders has long advocated for domestic mandatory trades registration that is simple, effective and practical for key existing structural trades where significant quality gaps exist. Such a system will ensure that the Victorian building and construction industry remains an one that prides itself on promoting continuous improvement and excellence.

While Master Builders supported the passing of the Building Amendment (Registration of Building Trades and Other Matters) Bill 2018 last year, we had reservations over its potential scope, especially regarding the proposed licensing scheme for employees across the domestic and commercial sectors. In our submission, Master Builders has voiced concerns over the significant cost that employee licensing may potentially have on the industry.
