Guest speaker Susan Halliday AM
Susan received her AM for significant service to social welfare, particularly through gender equality and human rights advocacy. With coveted expertise in employment law and human rights, governance, cultural reform, investigation and child protection, Susan defines work as “what we do to make the world a better place.”
On International Women’s Day in 1998, Susan was announced as Australia’s Sex Discrimination Commissioner. Her work around pregnancy and employment, sexual harassment and women’s rights is still referenced and utilised. Having also served as the nation’s Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Susan was appointed Inaugural Chair of Victoria’s largest professional regulator, the Victorian Institute of Teaching from 2002 to 2011. Susan has also undertaken a number of independent government inquiries.
A Life Governor of the Australian Childhood Foundation Susan has published 15 books for primary schoolers about gender and education.
