About the winning project

This project was unique, as the existing building was a single car garage with a total site area of 47sq m and was bought in 2020 in a highly contested auction that gained extensive media coverage. Alongside Plico Design Architects, Willoworks created this three-level townhouse constructed with precast concrete. A lot of thought went into this as with such a tight site, immediate access was essential without overcrowding the workspace so we came up with the idea to introduce cantilevered concrete stairs, these formed a fantastic feature and really opened up the space. The townhouse consisted of two bedrooms, a small courtyard, large bathroom/laundry, powder room, large living room and a generous rooftop terrace with glass opening roof.
