Spacemaker Home Extensions
Special Commendation – Best Renovation/Addition $750,000-$1M
About the winning project
As is often the case with extensions and renovations, the original scope of works evolved and, in this case, the owners decided to undertake a full period refurbishment of the dwelling. The original brief was to retain the front rooms and add an open-plan extension at the rear, along with a kids domain upstairs. Ground floor works consisted of adding a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite to the existing main bedroom, a new kitchen, meals area, family room, powder room, laundry and covered alfresco with outdoor kitchen. The second storey “kids domain” would provide two bedrooms, a sitting room, bathroom and separate water closet. The original front rooms were re-plastered, re-stumping, a new subfloor, reproduction Tasmanian Oak windows and a new entry door installed; the verandah was also originally to remain untouched, however it was in a poor state and was replaced with full respect to period detail.
