About the winning project
The project involves constructing a new three-level library connected to the Heritage-listed Customs House. The library boasts a complex facade with precast cladding, glazed curtain wall, and brass panelling. Inside, each floor is uniquely designed to match the architectural vision. The ground floor offers a vibrant space for children and parents, including games, reading, and a dedicated outdoor garden. The first floor features a “Tech Zone” and a Youth Area with gaming consoles and a sound booth. The second floor provides breathtaking views, a blackbutt coffered ceiling, and room for an extensive book collection. External works include a children’s garden, curved precast concrete cladding resembling book edges, and well-designed landscaping with seating.
