About the winning project
St. Francis of the Fields Primary School in Strathfieldsaye, East of Bendigo, faced the challenge of accommodating the growing population in the area. To meet the expanding needs, the school underwent a two-stage building process. First, the existing portable buildings were relocated to a remote location on the site, making way for the construction of a new 1100 sq m building. The construction involved a split-level design to adapt to the gently sloping site and provide accessibility. Despite delays in securing bricklaying workers, the internal works were completed on schedule, prioritising the client’s need to have the building ready before the new school year in 2023, even if the external cladding was finished later.
