Building and Construction Foundation:
Empowering the Future of the Industry

Founded by Master Builders Victoria (MBV) in 2010, the Building and Construction Foundation is an independent charity committed to empowering individuals to pursue meaningful careers in the construction industry. Our mission is to eliminate financial and social barriers to education and employment, enabling people from underrepresented and marginalised communities to access opportunities in the sector. By doing so, we aim to create a more diverse, inclusive, and skilled workforce that reflects the diversity of our society.

Our Mission and Impact

Our Foundation is dedicated to building a future where everyone, regardless of background or personal circumstances, has the opportunity to thrive in the construction industry. We do this by providing scholarships, mentorship, and community support programs tailored to individuals facing socio-economic disadvantages or hardships. Our approach focuses on breaking cycles of poverty and disengagement by equipping individuals with the education, training, and work opportunities they need to build successful careers.

How We Make a Difference

The Foundation’s impact is realised through our targeted scholarships and community initiatives:

1. Early Career Scholarship
 – Offering $2,500 to individuals embarking on apprenticeships or pre-apprenticeships in skilled trades, helping them gain the foundational skills needed for a successful career in construction.

2. Leadership Scholarship
 – Providing up to $5,000 for those pursuing construction-related diplomas or degrees, fostering the next generation of leaders in the industry.

Beyond financial support, we are deeply committed to community engagement. Our projects provide mentorship, skills development, and hands-on training for women, Indigenous Australians, refugees, immigrants, and young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. These initiatives are designed to ensure that individuals not only enter the industry but have the resources and support to thrive and excel.

Master Builders Victoria’s Ongoing Support

As our founding organisation, MBV continues to support the Foundation in its mission to foster diversity, inclusion and opportunity within the construction industry. They provide resources and support, and actively sponsor three scholarships, demonstrating their commitment to nurturing talent and building an industry that values equity and opportunity. This ongoing partnership is integral to our ability to extend our reach and create lasting change in the sector.

The Need for Continued Support

We believe in a future where the construction industry is accessible to all, regardless of background. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals and organisations to continue our work. Your support helps us provide scholarships, develop community programs, and expand our impact to reach more individuals in need. By partnering with us, you contribute to building a more inclusive and innovative construction industry, nurturing the next generation of skilled workers and leaders.

Together, let’s build a stronger, more diverse future for the construction industry. Visit our website to find out how you can be a part of this transformative journey.

Master Builders Victoria – Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP)

Master Builders Victoria has officially launched its first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan or RAP.

The building and construction sector is one of the top employers for working-age First Nations peoples, so we believe the onus is on MBV to lead this broader change.

Promoting reconciliation aligns with MBV’s values and purpose of driving positive change and empowering people to build a better future.

This public document, which Reconciliation Australia accredited in late July 2022, states MBV’s practical, meaningful, and measurable steps to sustainably and strategically advance reconciliation.

We know that real change must occur to tackle inequality and racism and to build strong relationships between First Nations peoples and non-indigenous Australians.

MBV aims to do its bit by contributing to advancing reconciliation internally and within our broader sector.

A core component of MBV’s RAP is a desire to develop an industry education initiative about the importance of protecting and managing Aboriginal cultural heritage.

Through MBV’s industry education initiative, we aim to collaborate with crucial First Nations organisations and businesses to develop and disseminate appropriate learning materials about Aboriginal cultural heritage.

We hope it can further increase our collective awareness of people and Country, particularly given our sector’s core activities directly impact the lands under the custodianship of First Nations peoples for more than 60,000 years.

Now that our first RAP has been launched, we plan to continue educating our organisation, our members, and the wider building and construction industry.
